On the day
Courses run from three hours to three days, but the shape of the day rarely changes: short explanations, long stretches of practice, and feedback in the moment rather than at the end.
The instructor sets out what the day covers, how the assessment works and which emergencies you will practise, then asks the group about the situations they actually deal with.
Most of the hours are hands-on: chest compressions on manikins, AED trainers, dressings and casualty handling, worked in pairs and small groups so nobody spends the day watching from the back.
Once the core skills are steady, practice moves into scenarios written around your workplace, your risks and the roles people hold — a nursery corridor, a shop floor, a pitch-side collapse.
Assessment happens throughout the day, so the instructor corrects technique while your hands are still on the manikin. Certificates are issued on successful completion.
